Malaysia offers unspecified "reward" to any private company that finds MH370

News to hand is that since the official search for MH370 wound up last Tuesday, the next move on the Malaysians part, is that they are now offering an unspecified reward, along with costs re-imbursement, for any private operator that can find the fuselage of MH370.

ABC News - Australia - Malaysia to offer reward for missing flight MH370

The final expenditure tally for the official search has been reported at AU$190M, with AU$100M being paid by Malaysia, AU$70M paid by Australia, and only AU$20M being paid by China.
As China had the largest pax component on the aircraft (153), it's pretty obvious China cares little for a few deceased Chinese, out of the billions in their population - and even less about a missing large passenger aircraft, or finding out the reason/s why it disappeared.

Or they know where it is and they've been waiting for a reward to be offered before miraculously 'discovering' it.

"All costs must be borne by them. We will only reward them if they are successful," Mr Abdul Aziz said."

All costs borne by the searchers, and paid after discovery with an as yet undecided amount.

Say 2 million ringgit which is roughly 450k USD. Nobody is going to bother for chicken feed like that while bearing all costs. 450k is a few days work out there.

Malaysia may be offering a reward, but I doubt that they will be handing over the withheld data.

The new private company won't be getting access to:

1. Actual playback of Malaysian ATC SSR
2. Malaysian PSR report containing position/altitude at 10 second intervals up to 1822:12
3. Fuel Burn and Endurance Report
4. Vietnamese ATC transcript of conversation with MH88
5. The FOs phone connection report with Penang and Banda Aceh
6. Flaperon Analysis
7. Multiple Indonesian Military PSR reports
8. Serial number and service history of the topped up crew oxygen bottles, etc.

the amount one would spend would not suffice the reward, no tender as we've spent our allowance

The "reward" offer was withdrawn as fast as it was made - showing the typical shambolic workings of the Malaysian Govt.

The Malaysian Deputy Transport Minister Abdul Aziz Kaprawi "offered" the reward last week - but within 3 days, he was over-ridden by the Transport Minister, Liow Tiong Lai, who issued this statement, refuting any "reward offer" ...

"The Government has not made any decision ... it was the Deputy Minister's personal view, not the Government's, we are not having any such decision," Liow said.

Malaysia withdraws MH370 reward offer as search ends

The whole Malaysian exercise looks suspect, and one wonders why a reward was only raised nearly 3 years after the disappearance of MH370.

One wonders why, if the Malaysians were genuinely concerned about discovering the wreckage, why they didn't offer a smaller reward much earlier in the search, to tribal people, peasants and fisherman, in regions bordering the Indian Ocean, to look out for and bring in any flotsam found, with possible aviation origins.
If they had done so, I'm personally convinced the wreckage of the aircraft would have been found, by now.

surely you're not implying that want to forget the incident, cover it up or "save face"?
