View Full Version : TWR instead of Approach frequency on chart

Could anyone explain the logic of the Jepps charts with reference to the frequency shown if a field has an approach and a tower frequency.

Ostend on the EB/EH chart for example: I would have thought that either passing through their zone or inbound, the first people to talk to would be Appoach. Why not give that frequency instead of the tower.

To my surprise the chart I bought in the Netherlands recently, published by the Dutch authorities, use the same (illogical?) principles.

Am I missing something here?

Maarten

Before some smart character writes in to say that the approach frequencies are listed at the bottom of the chart, I know! My point is that it should be the other way round.

Outside the UK, the standard procedure in Europe for VFR arrivals is to contact the Tower frequency, not Approach. I suspect that that's why Jepp prints them.

Ostend is an exception to that in that it controls a significant TMA outside the lateral extent of its CTR.

Thank you Bookworm, at least it makes sense now.
