Is there a list of airfields that CAA test the IR from?

i.e., a list of airfields where you won't have to pay repositioning charges?

(eg Oxford, Gloucester, Bristol)

off the top of my head:

Bournemouth
Bristol
Cranfield
Oxford
Leeds

I think there is a part time office at Prestwick but not sure.

True, true, but you only have to pop down to Filton for the ILS and Glos has the best (i.e. the worst) bendy NDB/DME that I've experienced. :p :ok:

I think Coventry is also possible; they reposition the examiner, not the aircraft.

Ah!! - that Stuart.

Snag is, the question was Is there a list of airfields that CAA test the IR from and they have never done initial IR testing from there.

The IAA (Irish Authorities) did some initial ratings from Stuart - but not the CAA.

CAA sticking firmly to their guns and all initial tests must be flown in UK airspace and tested by a CAA staff examiner (or specifically invited ex-staff examiner).

Single pilot IR renewals (either single engine or multi) can be flown over here - at just about any school...but not "initials".

Please don't discount Gloucester completely, when we have 2 students ready for their IR, Steve Oddy comes over from Oxford for the day and does the tests out of EGBJ. (perhaps it makes a pleasant change from the general mayhem at Oxford ?)
