Engine tailpipe fire

Your thoughts please ladies and gentlemen on continuing with an engine start after a reported tailpipe fire. The Boeing C/L has us blowing air through the unit until the fire is reported extinguished, then what? Some say, "tow it back to the gate for an inspection" others say,"light it up again and lets keep going". The C/L doesn't really help, finishes with:
Tower and F/A's....NOTIFY.

don't know about Boeing procedure but for us Airbus drivers ;when C/L completed:" MAINTENANCE ACTION IS DUE" meaning that ground inspection by qualified engineers is required PRIOR to next flight!cheers

Most engineers will ask what the max temp was on the EGT. this will determine the level of inspection required.

Have had a couple of these myself and as long as there was not a start EGT exceedance the a quick look in the back will suffice.
I would always recommend you call an engineer over for a quick look though 'cos there may be a cause for the fire (other than low duct pressure).:ok:

Good post mono,agree with everything you say other than 'a quick look down the back will suffice'. Bring it back to the gate so we can look at it and assess the defect without pax on board.
