i have a question about the spot wind on the FMS/GPS

Flying in a area of medium latitude (60°-20°)in a cruise, do you select to have True or Magnetic wind direction displayed by your FMS/GPS?

thanks

BD, true winds are displayed on our FMS, Smiths U10.2, can't help with stand alone GPS units. Sorry. By the way I am talking about the B73NG, I believe Airbus display Magnetic winds ?.

Based on common sense, I'd say that all upper winds displayed by long-range nav systems are true.
In MET reports, winds aloft are always true, whereas the winds given by tower controllers are magnetic.

Our FMS displays Magnetic, but the INS heads show True.

Honeywell/Trimble 8100, 9100 stand alone GPS display winds aloft in degrees true. Likewise all Collins units, I believe.

B757/767 - The EHSI displays magnetic wind velocity if the heading reference switch is selected to "magnetic" and true when "true" is selected.

The FMC "Cruise" page and "Progress" page 2 display true wind velocity at all times, as does the IRS display.

Hope that helps.
