Hello,

I have always been told that you must pass all your ground based exams within a 12 month time period for the JAA-FCL.

However recently I have been advised that this is incorrect and its actually 18 months, and that the 12 months hails from the "old PPL" days.

Can someone in the know please confirm for me whether for the JAA-FCL whether you have 12 or 18 months to comeplete the ground based exams?

Thanks

From passing first exam to passing last exam, maximum 18 months - then valid for 36 more months from date of passing last one for licence application.

It changed to 18 months last September, I think - it was 12 months when I got my PPL last year :*

Hello,

Thanks for your replies.

I did my first exam at the end of July, therefore will I be on the new system or still the 12 month one since I started before September?

Cheers

LASORS Section C (Private Pilot Licence) (http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/175/Lasors_Section_C.pdf) says...

An applicant shall be deemed to have successfully completed the theoretical examinations for the JAR-FCL PPL(A) when awarded a pass in all of the [above] examinations within a period of 18 months. A pass will be accepted for the grant of a JAR-FCL PPL(A) during the 24 months from the date of successfully completing all of the theoretical knowledge examinations.

Seems to me that everybody is on the 18 month system now. However, if you're in any doubt ask your CFI or e-mail the CAA to get an answer in writing.

727070 ,

I did my first exam in January last year, I asked my CFI earlier this year and he informed me that I had the full 18 months with which to complete my exams.

True. Everybody is on the 18 month system , regardless of when the first exam was passed. I was in the same situation and checked with the CAA as my last exam was (luckily) just a few weeks after the rule changed.
