Its not true to say that the IMC rating is only valid in the UK, it can also be used in:

Anguilla
Bermuda
British Antarctic Territory
British Indian Ocean Territory
Cayman Islands
Falkland Islands
Montserrat
Pitcairn, Henderson, Ducie and Oeno Islands
St. Helena St. Helena Dependencies (Tristan da Cunha and Ascension Island)
South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands
Sovereign Base Areas of Akrotiri and Dhekelia
Turks and Caicos Islands
Virgin Islands

...as these fall under the The Air Navigation (Overseas Territories) Order 2001. True, you need a validation of your licence, but it appears this could be just a paperwork formaility.

Happy flying :D

Fantastic news, Englishal.

Any idea if the IMC rating is also valid in the airspace between here and the Falkand Islands? I always wanted to fly across the south Atlantic on instruments

Better watch out for icing levels if you're flying in IMC around the British Antarctic Territory, though.
