I wonder if anyone can clarify the latest CAA policy regarding national ATPL's. The latest info from them found in
http://www.srg.caa.co.uk/documents/srg_fc l_Cessation_UK_Prof_Licences.pdf (http://www.srg.caa.co.uk/documents/srg_fcl_Cessation_UK_Prof_Licences.pdf)
I'm particularily interested in the bit that states the following:
------------------------------
1. UK CPL(A)/IR LICENCE HOLDERS WITH UK ATPL(A) THEORY
After the 30 th June 2002 holders of the above licence will not be able to be issued with a UK ATPL(A) licence. The UK ATPL(A) theory will remain valid for a period of 7 years from the last validity date of the IR(A) entered in the UK CPL(A)/IR licence (for the purpose of ATPL issue). Therefore, individuals wishing to obtain an ATPL(A) may only be issued with a JAR-FCL ATPL(A) subject to the following criteria:-·
Meet the requirements of a UK ATPL(A), although such a licence cannot be issued.
Meet the requirements for conversion of a national UK ATPL(A) to a JAR-FCL ATPL(A).
An alternative to obtaining a JAR-FCL ATPL(A) would be to convert the UK CPL(A)/IR to a JAR-FCL CPL(A)/IR. The UK ATPL(A) theory will then be accepted to endorse the first multi-pilot type rating to the JAR-FCL CPL(A)/IR, and once JAR-FCL ATPL(A) requirements have been met, a JAR-FCL ATPL(A) licence may be issued.
So, my interpretation of this is that if you have a National CPL/IR with ATPL credits, you will retain them for 7 years after your last IR renewal, just as in JAR. So it seems that there is no need to convert to JAR to retin ATPL credits.
------------------------------
btw, the last paragraph regarding meeting National ATPL conversion requirements to JAR, any one know what these are? Yes, I could look them up, but....
PS
