All you 747 pilots out there...

Just a quick question, can someone please give me an average T/O weight of a 747-400?? does not need to be exact, I juat want a reference.

I have an empty wieght of 400,700 lb/ 181,485 kg but I was after one closer to what it would be on T/O...

Typically between 230t for light load short haul, up to 395t for max wt long haul

Loadsheet figures usually look something like:
Empty weight 179600 kgs
Catering & crew about 6000 kgs
Zero Fuel Weight about 186,000 kgs
Payload weight, with pax usually not more than 55,000kgs. Cargo can be over 100,000 kgs, but limiting factor then is Maximum Zero Fuel Weight which for pax versions is about 246750 or 251740 kgs.
So then you can see how much fuel weight you can carry, and at this stage you may have to scale back the paylod to ensure that you stay within the Max TOW of 396000kgs (Standard 747-400) if it's a long one, AND when you burn the fuel off during flight, you come below Max landing weight of 285760kgs or it's interview time with Flight Manager!

How much would a knew 747 pilot get in his pay package.

Also why are there a number of pilots who say that they hate flying to america after what happened with the twin towers, cause they say that there scared incase something like that happens again.

The 744 freighter has an empty weight of about 158 to 160 tonnes. Typical loads are 70-110 tonnes, with a max (limited by Zero-Fuel Weight) of about 128 tonnes. On long hauls (trans-Pacific) we often take off at or near our 396.9 tonne max, but I would guess an "average" of 360-370.

1- about 1/12 of his annual pay
2- I don't think pilots 'hate' flying to America. It tends to be less popular than many other places because of short time off, and coming home, you start work just when you feeel like going to bed, and it is a tiring trip back across the Atlantic overnight. The trips are short, therefore have to be done frequently leading to fatigue build up.
3- Those people weren't bandits. They were religion-crazed fanatical murderers. What must their God thought of them when they appeared at the gates of heaven having killed so many innocent people? I bet they didn't get what they thought would be coming their way!

Doesn't the new 400ER have a MTOW of 415t? (Quoting a Discovery program figure here!)
