I see that the AAIB report on the skydiver/glider collision at Hinton last year is out

The conclusions seem somewhat different to the British Parachute Association's Safety Committee report in August that the glider pilot was to blame.

But it still comes down to the point that flying anywhere upwind of a parachute site is hazardous, even with local airspace sharing agreements in force.

All very sad

From the British Parachute Association Jump Pilots Manual
"Free fall drift on a windy day can be as much as 1/2 - 1 mile, for a drop 10-12,000 feet an it's direction may typically be up to 30 degress off the "parachute" windline

Give all drop zones a very, very wide berth. I personally don't go closer that 10nms if I can help it.

A tragic accident and hopefully one that will never be repeated.
