FAA PPL hours - training for JAA ATPL

Hi all,

I'm a Brit living in the USA and soon to move back to the UK. I have an American (FAA) PPL and about 115 hours, and looking to spend the money to train to a JAA ATPL licence. Do my FAA PPL and 115 hours count? Can I use them towards my JAA CPL? Or do I have to start from scratch. I'm thinking of using one of the schools in Florida to do this, anybody recommend one?

You should get your FAA Instrument Rating before you head off home and do the UK equivalent. A lot of your FAA IR training now counts, and you will save a lot of money. You need 50 hours X-ctry time before you are eligible to take the FAA IR, so start going for breakfasts over the horizon. You have enough hours to convert to the UK PPL without any required extra training, though it would make sense to get some. Dual is always a good thing.
