Out of interest. I am a student pilot and would like to get a general idea. Flying school said average is 55hours.

I am aware that number of hours does not show how good of a pilot you are as it depends on a lot of factors i.e. duration of training, instructor, personal learning pace etc.

Appologies if a similiar post/poll has been posted recently.

Not yet!

My next lesson is tommorrow (Saturday). Im just hoping that runway in use will be 22 and not 04, not too much traffic and crosswind. If these conditions prevail, and he still doesnt let me go solo, ill take it theres something wrong with my flying which he isnt pointing out or im getiing it constantly wrong!! :(

43 hours - but you havn't given me a slot to vote in.

p.s. In 1981 it was a 40 hour minimum.

43 for me, then two and a bit for the test gave me the 45hrs (just over).

Mine was after 45 hours but I believe it helps to fly regularly. It depends on so many factors...as you say, it doesn't necessarily reflect skill...it's not a race! :D

I got my ppl in 62 hours or so. However, that included 20 hours in 172s with an instructor I didn't really get on with that well, and getting my taildragger endorsement (I switched schools and started again essentially).

I did first solo in a taildragger. And passed my PPL check in the same plane.

Still land the 172 a bit flat ...
