Possible Prevention of Quick Donning Feature - from Boeing to all 737, 747, 757, 767 & 777 operators.

The message in summary is in regard to several models of Eros oxygen masks parts nos. MF10-02-01, MF10-02-11, MF10-03-01, MF10-03-11, MF20-003 from s/n 85000 produced June 2000 and on.

Flight crews have noted a potential concern regarding these models of Eros quick donning flight crew oxygen masks. In particular that the swivel elbowed oxygen fitting can be positioned such that the microphone cable can interfere with the harness inflation control lever preventing proper inflation of the harness.

This can only occur in the models since Eros added the shrink wrap sleeve to the microphone wire in June 2000 from s/n 85000. This shrink wrap was added to prevent a potential chafing condition.

Boeing recommends operators inspect the stowage of these masks to ensure the swivel elbow is not positioned to interfere with the harness inflation control lever. If the condition is noted, the mask should be re-packed within the stowage box to eliminate the condition. Boeing recommends that operators inform their flight and maintenance personnel of the potential condition.

Eros is delevoping a solution and intends to issue a service bulletin to be released by early September 2002.
