For reasons only known to themselves, unit management have decided to send us all on the latest money making wheeze by the Met' Office - Met' Observers Refresher Courses.

I'm sure that Torquay is a very nice place, but it loses whatever appeal it may have had at the thought of being there in October, February or April, going through the delights of the Met' slide rule, cloud observing techniques, and a refresher on reading an aneroid baraometer.

Is anyone else going?

I think the first paragraph of this AIC (http://www.ais.org.uk/Uk_aip/AIP/pdf/aic/4W048.PDF) answers your first point.

We have been told we won`t be going cos the ATC budget won`t cover it.

Surely the seaweed is much fresher at Torquay than at Reading (as per AIC), and therefore more accurate for meteorological purposes?
