on the bbc news website an article (19 feb 02) claims that a 10% reduction in controller numbers is planned. if this is correct would these numbers come from natural wastage or a reduction in ab initio recruitment?
Maybe its a reference to an unavoidable retirement "bulge" which might be just around the corner.
I think you will find it is a 10% reduction in support staff. Highly unlikely to be ATCOs, NATS hasn't enough as it is!!

As a recently reorganised ex-opearational engineer I would say there is no way we can lose one guy at Swanwick. We are about 50% UNDER staffed. We are working hard and still going backwards. The Transport Sub Committee got it spot on!... Thanks Mrs D!!
