Can a single engine bleed supply both wing anti ice?

Thanks

Yes, it can. Although you will need to have one of the packs off in order for the one active bleed to be able to supply the demand without overheating.

Not necessary to turn one pack off, FCOM says pack flow low is sufficient.

Interesting. What's your MSN?

Not necessary to turn one pack off, FCOM says pack flow low is sufficient.

You can check this as part of any of MEL Ops Proc. 36-11-01A/B/C/D/E/F/G/H :

AFTER ENGINE START

ENG BLEED (AFFECTED) pb-sw .................. OFF
X BLEED rotary selector .................. OPEN

If both PACKs are operative:

If Wing Anti-Ice is not required:
PACK FLOW SELECTOR .................. LOW
If Wing Anti-Ice is required:
PACK (AFFECTED) pb-sw .................. OFF

If one PACK is inoperative:
PACK FLOW selector .................. HI

(...)

IN FLIGHT

If Wing Anti-Ice is required and both PACKs are operative:
PACK (AFFECTED) pb-sw .................. OFF

(...)

As you can see on both cases of both packs available and/or wing anti-ice required, the goal is to reduce demand from the one available bleed in order for it to cope. While with only one pack it is paramount to give hi flow to the pack to take care of all conditioning and pressurisation on single pack operation. On a side note the fact that the X-BLEED is selected OPEN allows for double wing anti-ice feeding from a single bleed.

This procedures is the same for all MSNs that we have in my company, that range from 1300 to 7700 in pretty much all possible configurations of engines and type variants.

I actually misread the question. Stand fully corrected and apologies for the hasty reply!

Is there any reason to turn on ANTI-ICE ENG(side with ENG BLEED pb-sw————on) during descent at 10,000ft?
FLIGHT PREPARATION/LIMITATIONS

- The flight crew should take into account the severity of forecast icing conditions. The wing

anti-ice will be lost if the remaining engine bleed air supply system becomes inoperative.

AFTER ENGINE START

‐ ENG BLEED (AFFECTED) pb-sw.......................................................... ...................................... OFF ‐ X BLEED rotary selector.................................................... .........................................................OPE N

„ If both PACKs are operative:

ECON FLOW pb-sw.......................................................... .............................................. ON

The ECON FLOW pb-sw must be set to ON due to precooler performance.

AFT CARGO HOT AIR (not installed)pb-sw.......................................................... .........OFF

PACK (AFFECTED)pb-sw.......................................................... ......................................OFF

„ If one PACK is inoperative:

ECON FLOW pb-sw ............................................................ ...................................................OFF

FOR TAKEOFF

Set at least one air conditioning pack to off, or use the APU bleed air supply system.

AFTER TAKEOFF

● If the APU has been used to supply the air conditioning during the takeoff:

APU BLEED pb-sw ............................................................ ....................................................OFF

IN FLIGHT

● If Wing Anti-Ice is required and both PACKs are operative:

PACK (affected side) pb-sw ............................................................ .......................................... OFF

● In the case of failure of the remaining engine bleed air supply system, or in the case of failure of the associated engine:

Apply the AIR ENG 1+2 BLEED FAULT ECAM procedure.

CAUTION Reset ENG BLEED pb-sw as requested by ECAM procedure even if the ENG

BLEED pb-sw is placarded inoperative as per MEL 36-11-01.

DURING DESCENT

● At 10 000 ft, if engine anti-ice (side with ENG BLEED pb-sw OFF) is available:

ANTI ICE ENG (side with ENG BLEED pb-sw OFF) pb

Some operators seemed to have problems with engine stalls in single bleed config. To increase the stall margin of the engine you have to increase the bleed demand. This is done by switching on Eng Anti Ice

Is there any reason to turn on ANTI-ICE ENG(side with ENG BLEED pb-sw————on) during descent at 10,000ft?
It is an engine problem.
V2500 with SN >1500 and EEC Software SCN22 (so called SelectTwo) with HPC > 10000cycles tend to stall when without bleed load passing 5000ft.
Due to several occurrences AI raised the TFU 71.00.00.118.
