Dubai's Emirates Airline, the largest operator in the world of Airbus A380 double-decker superjumbos, is eying an aircraft that would be capable of carrying up to 800 passengers.
Emirates, which recently entered into a global partnership with Qantas that will see Dubai replacing Singapore as the traditional connection and stopover point for millions of Australian travellers on their way to Europe, currently has 26 517-passenger capacity A380s in service.
Adel Al Redha, executive vice president of engineering and operations at Emirates, said the airline wants to be able to fit at least another 283 passengers on board each plane.
He said they just can't wait for bigger and better aircraft.
"I think there is no doubt about it, there will be more demand for higher-capacity aircraft, purely driven by the capacity and congestion you have at airports and airspace," Al Redha told Arabian Business.
"It is always difficult to get slots in any international airport today... The only way to fill your need is to operate that kind of aircraft.
"I think the size we would look at right now is the treble aircraft configuration that goes from 500 to 800 passengers."
However, he said it would likely take at least another decade for a triple-decker style plane to be developed.

Losing the whale would hurt unless they get that third runway built at LHR quick. It does very well on certain routes but struggles on others.

The impact on seats at slot constrained airports would be dramatic. Over 15k seats in and out of the U.K. Each week.
