Hi all,

Is anyone flying during the eclipse?

Just curious as I'm quite excited about it :)

If you are, in UK at least, you probably won't notice anything. It's only a partial eclipse and the remaining sunlight will amply illuminate the earth.

Yes I am in the UK, and although a partial it's a good eclipse going by the animations I have seen, it's not actually far off a total from what I have understood.

I saw a 75% solar eclipse in Brisbane in 1983. Although you might not have noticed it directly if you weren't aware of it, what was very noticeable was that it became distinctly cool and all the birds stopped chirping and singing.

The whole of the UK will see about 90% of the sun covered, so these effects should be quite noticeable.

Make sure you have a night rating.

Purely technical, but, being dark doesn't make it night:p

I'm sure someone will give all the numbers for civil, nautical, & astronomical twilights........

I make a point of seeing eclipses. I will be there.
