OK Folks,

How does one add Multi-Engine privileges to an existing Single-Engine CRI?

My head officially hurts. I've looked through CAP804, Part-FCL, AMC to Part-FCL, amendments to Part-FCL, and also the FIE handbook etc etc. I've also searched high and low on-line.

FCL.905.CRI(b) seems to suggest 15 hour PIC Multi in the last 12 months, and also one training flight from the right hand seat under the supervision of a suitable instructor occupying the other seat.

FCL.905.CRI(c) says you have to satisfy:
FCL.915.CRI(a), 500 hours as pilot on aeroplanes and,
30 PIC on Multis
FCL.930.CRI(a)(3), 5 hours on multis from an FI(A)

FCL.935, an assessment of competence.

The requirements section also lists references to further FCL sections.

I'm presuming the course has to include ground school, (there is a suggested syllabus in the AMC), so why not an explicit reference to FCL.930.CRI(a)(2)?

Have I missed anything out, or included too much?

Thanks in advance for any help,

sixgee

You have to meet the experince requirments and do a CRI ME course with a skill test at the end. The entry requirements are 30hrs PIC on multi and 500hrs TT.

The CRI course is 5hrs flying and 15hrs ground school. I suggest you give ontrack a call.

Thanks Bose-x, but do you think the 15 hours MEP PIC in the 12 months before issue also applies? The wording is so vague.

I'm asking on behalf of a friend who is an experienced airline pilot, but with CRI Singles, who wants to now include CRI Multis.

I'm also with the airlines, but used to hold (well lapsed!) FI with all the restrictions removed, so have a vague memory of what I had to do in the past to get the ratings.

Cheers,
Sixgee

Part-FCL was amended by Commission Regulation (EU) 245/2014. This is now included in the latest version of CAP 804 (Amendment 15) which states:

(c) Applicants for a CRI for multi-engine aeroplanes holding a CRI certificate for single-engine aeroplanes shall have fulfilled the prerequisites for a CRI established in FCL.915.CRI(a) and the requirements of FCL.930.CRI(a)(3) and FCL.935.

Publications with Titles Containing : cap804 | Publications | About the CAA (http://www.caa.co.uk/cap804)

That is: fulfill the prerequisites for a CRI ME [FCL.915.CRI], complete the CRI ME course [FCL.930.CRI] and Assessment of Competence [FCL.935].

You can also access the consolidated version of Commission Regulation (EU) 1178/2011 [Part-FCL] here:

Thanks for your help guys.

Had a chat with the Nice people at Ontrack and they put me straight. It's as Bose-x says.

FCL.905.CRI (b), the bit with 15 PIC in the previous 12 months does not apply for the addition of ME CRI, it does apply if you, say, wanted to instruct in a Cessna caravan and hadn't had a CRI test in one.
