Does anyone know of a place where I can Hire and Fly a plane in the Bern/Zurich area in January 2015? I am planning on doing my EASA PPL and want to then do a flight around the Alps.

Hello, I am not sure what Bern does theses day's But a little very busy GA Airfield north of Bern Is Grenchen Great Airfield and they have a very good website and good Flying Club with a lot of history . Look on a Half Mil Map. You mention flying around the Alps you will have to be Mountain Checked they will not let you go unless you are for good reasons.

You might also want to check out Birrfeld Home (http://www.birrfeld.ch)
They have a great little airfield, super friendly and a good selection of aircraft all immaculately maintained plus instructors who are qualified in mountain flying.
The club is located closer to Zurich than Bern, so depends on where you are planning to be located.
