Hey everyone,

Just wondering if it is possible to get an Multi engine rating and an instrument rating on my EASA PPL? I understand I can get an IMC but apparently this can only be used in the UK and I sometimes plan to fly outside of the UK eg trip to Europe.

Comments will be much appreciated!

Yes, Multi fairly straightforward, can be done at many Flight Schools.

For an IR you will have to first go to ground school for theoretical knowledge training then sit the ATPL or IR (slightly less stuff to learn) written exams, get through ~50 hours of Instrument flying training and then pass a Skills test with a CAA Examiner.

You will need to budget a lot of time, money and commitment for a MEIR.

With the new IR syllabus the IR path is more than slightly less. Its actually a LOT less than ATPL.
For the theoretical part a DL is 80 hours with only 8 in classroom. The practical bit is 40 hours (for SE) and only 10 of these on a FTO. The rest you can fly with any IRI instructor.
