Hi, I'm thinking of flying to Whitby (or nearby) and the closest strip seems to be Egton http://http://www.airfieldcards.com/index.php/menu-echo/egton

Does anyone have any experience at landing here? Cheers.

I would definitely get in touch with the owner. He took me flying in his moth there. Just a field. Sometimes sheep.

It’s been a few years since I’ve landed there. It used to be handy when my folks were around, as they lived on the opposite side of the valley from Egton. A quick circle over their house and by the time I’d landed and pushed the aeroplane in to a cow / sheep proof part of the field, they were there to pick me up.

There was a rumour that the joining instructions included ‘do a low pass to drive the sheep in to the corner of the field and then land’ There was another about the larger rocks having been painted white to aid detection. Not sure if either of these are fact…

The phone number is in Lockyears, Peter will be the best guide to the present condition of the strip. You may well already have had a look on the Google satellite view. You can see the hangar at the eastern edge of the field. Generally landing and taking off on the long axis of the field gives a NE / SW orientation. I did once take off to the north, which was a bit tight for getting over the trees at the edge of the field.

Saltersgate is an option if you want a less demanding strip. It's a pleasantly scenic ride into Whitby from the nearby bus stop.
