Hi all, this evening a lovely sight, hot air ballon right over my garden, in middle of watford!

Very surprised to see one over a large town!

Do they have to comply with 500 ft rule and ability to glide clear should burners fail? Not much open space where we are and the height he was. He was pretty low, and manically on the burners!

we occasionally see them around us of nice calm evenings, lovely sight

not sure how they would manage to change course to avoid built up areas

There's a General CAA Exemption for taking off from a congested area

Rule 6(d) seems to allow it too if becalmed

I believe there is a company that operates hotair balloon flights over London. A friend of mine in Croydon got a photo of one last year (G-LRGE if I remember right)
