I am not sure about the function of this key 'ON VOICE' on audio control panel of airbus 320. any idea what it is for?

thanks in advance

Some VORs/NDBs also transmit ATIS information. The 'on voice' button blocks out the ident (beeps) so you can listen to the voice information. Manchester (MCT) VOR is a case in point.

In the US, it can also be used for HIWAS, or to communicate with FSS.

Isn't that ON VOICE indicator on the ACP of the radio that is normally used for ACARS - the set is then working for datalink. Under pilots discretion it is allowed to switch that set from ACARS use to voice use, for instance if you fly near Cyprus where you are supposed to maintain simultaneous contact with Nicosia and Ercan radar and you might still want to monitor GUARD (121.5)

In order that you do not forget to switch the set back to ACARS use, your attention is drawn to the ON VOICE status by a light.

The voice key on the ACP is an audio notch filter which reduces the level of the 1000Hz ident tones on VORs, so that you can more clearly hear the ATIS transmission without the ident tone blowing your eardrums out.

I think, EMIT, you are thinking of the ECAM memo message, not the ACP one?

I think, EMIT, you are thinking of the ECAM memo message, not the ACP one? VHF 3 ON VOICE

The ON VOICE button on the ACP is meant to suppress the 'Ident' making it easier to hear voice transmissions on VHF stations (VOR, etc) as someone earlier explained.

Yeah; the 'voice' (or is it 'on voice'?) key on the ACP is not to remind you to switch back to ACARS, it is an audio notch filter you can switch in to reduce the level of the ident tone, as I say.

Sometimes I switch it in to try to improve bad comms transmissions too. It occasionally works, but not often.

The ACARS message on the ECAM memo EMIT refers to is something like 'VHF3 on voice', from memory.

Surely this in is the FCOM?

Pappy J and Uplinker

You could very well be correct and I wrong: been a while since I flew the Bus, just too many types of audiopanels available in the industry and the original question too vague - therefor my respons was started with "isn't that ...."

No problem, EMIT.
