Have a look at this article for exaggeration! They end it by talking about whether Airbus will ground the A321!

Terror in the sky: Photographer captures moment plane's engine catches fire minutes after take off | Mail Online (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2319844/Terror-sky-Photographer-captures-moment-planes-engine-catches-minutes-off.html)

" ....the blaze ripped through the aircraft, leaving it flying with just one engine."

Fortunately, a Mr H. Potter was a passenger on the aircraft and - with a wave of his wand - he conjoured up 59 random numerals and 2 engines, turning the A321 into an A380, giving each passenger a row to themselves....

I agree. Overstating because they don't know and like the dramatic.
About the only thing they have left out is missing a school !

"The plane’s engine stalled and cut out while the blaze ripped through the aircraft, leaving it flying with just one engine."

To update S. J. Perelmann: "I asked the flight attendant to bring me a newspaper, and the poor girl, being hard of hearing, brought me the Daily Mail instead."

Amazing - comparing the before and after pictures, I never knew an engine failure could lead to a 400,000-lb weight gain. :D

Which one's the failed engine?Obviously number two. Number one has its "Nachbrenner" engaged per procedure. :}

Many of our papers here have became quite excited and some of the reader comments make Daily Mail readers' comments seem very normal.

These journalists are not dummies. They know there is no school on Saturday.

However I would like to know if the engine exploded or was it a "glitch"

A spokesman for Helsinki-Vantaa airport said: ‘A Lufthansa flight had to make an emergency landing at Helsinki airport on Saturday evening due to a glitch in the plane’s engine.'

D-AISL hasn't been flown since it made a safety landing at HEL with flight number LH851/DLH8HT. I guess Luftansa Technik is now performing an engine change in one of the hangars at HEL.

The German-bound Airbus suffered a number of technical problems before streaks of flames emitted from the left engine, 15 minutes after leaving ground.

15 minutes? That photographer must have one hell of a zoom lens on his camera :}

From the Daily Mail

"A full investigation has now been launched by the airliner and Airbus to determine the exact cause of the accident."

Blimey! I had heard that Airbus was making intelligent kit but for a plane to be able to investigate its own incidents is amazing. I assume the grammar and spelling in its report will be far superior to that exhibited by the Daily Mail. As an ex pat I can't help but be astonished at how the level of journalism has declined in the decades since I left Albion.

Come to think of it, if a plane is so intelligent that it can investigate its own incidents, perhaps the newspapers should invest in such equipment and fire the journos!

Classic..absolutely classic.

To which I can imagine Hoskin's reply...

"Sorry Skipper. These new mixture control levers are having their day."

I’ve also read the readers’ comments. All the exaggeration by the journalist results in an abundance of people who coolly comment that the Daily Mail is wrong and that this is not really dramatic at all!

Not sure why the moderator did not like our quips about the mixture control...Is not "leaning off peak" the proper technique to keep just this kind of thing from happening? :)

Its one thing to have increased fuel burn and fouled plugs...it is another thing when it gets to the point as it did here for LH.
