I thoroughly enjoyed my foot-launch days (hang-gliding) - the closest thing to a flying dream I have ever experienced. The issue with hang-gliding is that it's much more weather sensitive than GA so unless you are flexi-time it's hard to organise life round the weather.

Enclosed foot-launch rigid wings have been around for a while - the Swift wing is perhaps the widest known.
