Any opinion on OIL FILTERS ? I am going to do the dreaded annual in the freezing cold hangar soon on the RV6. I have a choice of either a Champion or Tempest. Any advantages with either - not talking about the cost. I use shell multi grade 15/50.

The champion built slightly better and is less likely to give trouble when being removed following instalation WITHOUT the approved lubricant being put on the seals.

The Tempest is well up to the job providing that you use the approved seal lubricant, I have been using them for years without any problems. ( they are slightly cheaper as well)

Hi John, I have no way of saying which filter is best, and I assume any filter that is changed every 50 hours would not likely become at all blocked with metalic particals.

I once owned a Honda motor cycle that only took a small amount of oil, and had no filter, just relying on regular oil changes. However when I striped the engine down after very many miles I found a centrifugal box on the crankshaft which was full of about 3 teaspoons of alloy dust. (the bike reved to beyond 12000 rpm so the centrifugal part worked really well!) I hadn't realised that it had that sort of device fitted.
