Nice to see the DTech DE&S has a good sense of humour with his Tw***er picture ... Well played Sir :D

(One hopes the spanner was tagged out on the Shadow Board :ok:)

Perhaps a certain retired RN Commander of Sea Harrier fame might sport one of these :E

Surely he will not hold anything as his knuckles will be dragging on the ground.

Leaving his spanner behind was too much of a wrench......

A monkey wrench perhaps?

Well, its either a heavily airbrushed picture as he doesn't appear to have changed more than his clothing since 1991 - or he has a spooky painting in his attic?

Well done Ju-ju babes, for whatever it is you've done to deserve this.

...now, where's that 3/16th spanner gone...

Obviously been given a job in industry - he is getting ready to bolt.

Good to see an excellent engineer doing well.

Annoying to note that he doesn't look any older than he did 20 years ago when he was Sengo 18!!!

That was his official HQ AIR photograph and could be seen in the foyer of HQ at HWY every day whilst he was XO as well as on the official RAF internet website.
No photoshopping involved.

In his biog it says he first realised he was an Engineer when during Officer training the DS said he was going to shove a red hot poker up his backside and at that point he decided to make a bolt for the door..

I'll get my coat...

Could be the only spanner he's ever had in his hand! Would he know what to do with it. With no brevet he decided to hold a spanner so that people would not think him a "blanket stacker or a scribbly"

Which raises the question - what would other branch's non air crew Air Officers hold in their photos?

In my reluctantly-adopted Branch (Pers, formerly known as Admin (Sec)) it would be a chisel for a number of senior officers...and there would be a less-than-conspicous display of campaign medals on most of them!

I'm sure we'd all agree that for the Chief Rock it would be a banana :E

IIRC there was a rather comical drawing circulating back in the mid 70's under the title of "Brevets for All" ... it contained a number of irreverent suggestions for RAF Half Wing Brevets ... the flying spanner and flying banana were certainly represented !

This was around the time of the woolly jumper entering service and the then debate on Aircrew Brevets being worn on the jumper :oh:

It would be great if anyone still has a copy to share :ok:
