Hello all,

I had someone today tell me that ANY examiner authorised by the authority can sign the certificate of revalidation by experience on an SEP rating, even if they don't have single pilot privileges. He seemed to suggest as its a paperwork exercise, checking you have done the 12 hours etc, you could get it signed by a TRE.

Anyone know of the legislation behind this?

It has always been the case and is written into the Examiners Authorisation. GR Examiners have been notified that they can no longer sign such certificates on EASA licences.

GR = Ground Examiner and R = Revalidation Examiner Neither exist under EASA

From what I understand, your CFI, ought be able to do this for you. Or any other CFI, It is just paper work, so long as you've your 12 hours in, in this year, Plus a min of 1 hour with an FI in your log book in the year running upto your SEP revalidation.

A CFI is not necessarily an Examiner!

I thought the R Examiner would continue to exist in the UK (albeit in a sawn off capacity) for NPPL licences only ?

What scope (if any) is there for an R Examiner to upgrade to gain the same privileges under EASA ?

CRE is a £6k course plus reveal by test at £1600 every three years. Seem a lot to spend to be able to do revalidation signatures which according to CAA guidance should be free.....

Ouch!

Is that down to the new EASA regs for a staff examiner to get involved?

No, its old CAA policy which identifies CREs as being company sponsored and therefore able to pay the "franchise" fee!

Thanks Whopity!

Does anybody know wether EASA are putting a stop to an examiner signing a certificate of revalidation by experience if the pilot holds a licence from another state?

FCL.1015(c) Holders of an examiner certificate shall not conduct skill tests, proficiency checks or assessments of competence of an applicant for which the competent authority is not the same that issued the examiner’s certificate, unless:
(1) they have informed the competent authority of the applicant of their intention to conduct the skill test, proficiency check or assessment of competence and of the scope of their privileges as examiners;
(2) they have received a briefing from the competent authority of the applicant on the elements mentioned in (b)(3). It doesn't mention revalidation by experience!
