Message from Fly BN

Dear All

After 18 months as leaseholders and managers of Sandown Airport, our tenure has now sadly come to an end, effective 31 August 2012. We understand that from that date the airfield will remain open as usual, though the field will be managed by a new management team. No details have yet been published regarding opening times and contact information.

We would like to thank you all for your support and generous custom during our time at Sandown and hope very much that we have taken good care of you during your visits to our field.

The efforts of Pete Dalby and team will now be primarily focussed on Daedalus Airfield at Lee-on-the-Solent, where visitors remain most welcome. In addition to our modest Aeroclub facility at Daedalus, where you can get a cup of tea and free WiFi, we will also be opening up pedestrian access to the LoS area so that visitors can make their way down to the sea front and beaches. No PPR is required for Daedalus, but you are advised to get in touch if arriving on Wednesday pm or at the weekend so that we can advise you about gliding activity.

Please note that Sandown tower will no longer be available via our old telephone number. Details for Daedalus, however, will remain as they were before:

Weather permitting, we look forward to seeing you at Daedalus soon.

Happy landings...

Sorry to hear about Sandown.

Can you announce when the pedestrian access to the LoS area is open. I visited the day you took over, and was told you would be creating the access. I don't feel there is much to do on site. I think you will get a lot more visitors when you have the access open - I for one would become very regular.

Regards, Tim

Lee is a good facility. There isnt much to do on site but it is pretty easy to get to the ferry across to Portsmouth and enjoy some retail therapy, the naval dockyards or a stroll along the prom.

A few bikes for rent would be a good idea please!

Is the information contained in your "Lee on Solent Airfield Visitors Guide" April 2012 still applicable, ie Lee Radio 118.925, joining instructions etc.?

Let there be no doubt, SANDOWN IS STILL VERY MUCH OPEN and looks forward to seeing you all, and the sooner the better :).

Although matters are still somewhat fluid (to put it politely), up to date information can be obtained from Carla at CJ's Cafe on +44 (0) 7930 242 488. You are advised to call before departure for the latest SITREP. The usual excellent cusine is available 7 days a week on the south side of the field.

At time of writing there is no ground-air radio available so blind call procedure is required. As and when Carla will be able to up date you. There is still no fuel available however Goodwood and/or Popham are not far away.

So, what are you waiting for? Come on down!

Update 21 August 12

IT'S GETTING BETTER :ok:

SANDOWN TOWER NOW OPERATIONAL AGAIN SO PLEASE CALL ON 119.275MHz.

Regretably the phone is still non-operational but you can call Carla at the Cafe on 07930 242488
