Is a tactical landing actually a landing, or is it one of these low-altitude parachute extraction manoeuvres? There's a bunch of these in the EGPX notams (Plockton, Broadford, Oban).

Once met a Herc in Glenforsa (the glen, not the airstrip) on a lovely summer's evening. Below me:ok: Looked great

Just normal landings (none of the low level palette dropping)

I think the tactical refers to the surface and type of landing (shortfield etc.)

They do them quite frequently on Salisbury Plain:

They come steaming up then chuck everything out then go down like a brick and pull like a sod at the bottom to hopefully cancel all the energy off so its not its last landing.

Its more the rate of decent on approach than anything else ie stay high then get low as quickly as possible.

The one at Kinnell will be more spectacular as it's covered in bales of hay, chicken sheds etc.

I see they are using Kinnell as well.

Last time they did this exersise we got a nice low level go around at Perth every morning at 9.00. Great for bird scaring!
