A380 question

Does any one know the distance from the wheels to the glide path antenna on an A380?

I originally posted this in the "Questions" forum but got no answers. :(

Gear retracted :capture antenna in use.Located behind the radom below the
wx antenna.Height from ground approximately 4,5 m.

Gear extended :track antenna in use.Located above NLG steering actuators.
It is in red paint and easily to detect on several pictures.Height above ground
roughly 1,8 m.

Obviously I read through the 400 page Airbus A380 aircraft characteristics manual first and found nothing about this specific question. I thought there was bound to be an airbus mechanic on here and there was. If he was wrong some other person would contradict him.

Do you have an email contact of a person in Airbus that I can ask or do you suggest that I should just ring up the secretary in the Airbus main office in Toulouse and ask her to put me through to the person who knows the answer?

Yes, but NB: you need the height of the antenna above mainwheels in LANDING ATTITUDE.

I would suggest the folks over at Quovadis (http://www.quovadisway.com/).
They are a subsidiary of Airbus, and are the Procedure Designers for Airbus.

The head of ops is Don-Jacques Ould-Ferhat.


Expect runway width wide enough for the outboard engines, and about a max 2.8 GPA.

I got a reply by email this morning and if you all are interested it is 5.95m (19.5 ft).
So the standard ICAO Pan-Ops value of 8m for large aircraft will cover it.
I knew it was worthwhile to post on PPrune. :ok:

That's interesting. I thought it would be more.
IIRC, in a B747 the pilot eye height at main gear touchdown is 70ft.
(I appreciate that the antenna is set much lower than the pilot)
