In my 15 years on the Airbus, I used a moulded earpiece mounted on a plastic bar. The aircraft were equipped with a boom mike on a headband. Plantronics, I think. I would remove the boom mike from the headband, then slide it on the bar.

My company also uses a boom mike / headband unit on the B777. Telex, I think. I have never liked a band over my head, and I find the foam earpieces sitting outside the ear not anywhere near as effective as the moulded earpiece sitting inside the ear canal. As well, there is sanitation consideration : no replacement earpads available.

Have you a recommendation for a unit which meet my requirements ?
Hoping for something that won't take up too much room in my flight bag, and that's useable on other aircraft types.

If it matters, it's for Air Canada B777, both 200 and 300 series.

I have seen T7's that are equipped with a standard headset plug (located next to the new 5 pin sockets found in most modern planes by now). Some guys use these standard sockets to plug in the "moulded earpiece mounted on a plastic bar". They then use the handheld mic... And for TO/LDG they use the normal headset...
