FTE Jerez comments?

Hi, does anybody have any working experience of FTE, conditions, pay & rations etc? I see they are advertising for FI's and would like to get an impression of them. Reading the training threads makes things out there sound a bit grim, so interested in any and all feedback.

Don't do it.

Standards are going down quick; I'm here (student) now, nearly finished thank :mad:. Nice enough place, weather great for flying but standard of teaching is getting worse. They got to take anybody they can as to many of instructors are leaving.

Don't know conditions but month salary must be better than UK I think. Alot don't seem happy. Not much training for them.

So if you're GOOD instructor they will give you a job for definite and students will be happy! If not, they will give you job probably anyway.:ugh:

I too am about to finish. The problems are:
Groundschool: Very short of good staff. Many of the best have gone and all the others are interviewing and waiting for job offers, especially from Dubai.
Engineers: Very short of staff. We were down to 1 Seneca for almost 20 cadets. Sim now breaks down and there is no-one to fix it. Sim instructors are tearing their hair out!
Flying: Very short of staff (have I said that before?). The senior people are trying very hard but it is an impossible firefight.
A new Head of Training is needed IMMEDIATELY before the whole thing goes down the pan!
An yes, bring money for your coffee. :ugh::ugh::ugh:

the money for the coffee...you can have coffee for free at breakfast and 3 coffee a day the rest you pay...maybe you drank too many of them that is why you are so bitter.:=
Situation is not so bad, pay is competitive with the other major flying school. And the fact that flybe, aerlingus etc has chosen FTE again compared to other schools, means it can't be so bad:cool:

I only have appraisal for the instructors, and no delaying on the flying slot.
Friends in other flying schools just have to fight for an aircraft!

Can anyone especially present FTE students please give me some essential advice.Are things at the school as bad as alot of people are saying.I am due to go over for an entrance exam but dont know anymore.
For a little more OAA seems to be a better option??They posted over 200 pilot placements for last year and in the current climate that aint bad.Fte havent revealed their placement record.
I have worked so hard for the last few years to enable me to fullfill my dream so all advice on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

Aer lingus, Flybe etc continue to use FTE, I wonder will they continue after all the bad press.

I know someone who was amongst those 200 "placements" last year. Worth noting that he graduated almost 10 years ago though and hadn't worked as a pilot until he got the job and it was through no help from the school whatsoever.

OAA placements were mostly in airlines were you had to pay type rating, and they write on their record also the airline sponsored cadets.
If you ask FTE will send you the placement record, and you will see no many Ryan (thankfully)

Slot, it means that in some schools unfortunately there are more students than aircrafts availability...that means delays, or fights between who is the lucky one to fly.

PS ex student but with lots of friends currently studying or working in FTE. As I said, and as mostly everywhere in the airline industry, moaning seams to be the favorite sport among pilots. Maybe we have a job that is too easy now a days with super technological aircrafts? :cool:

I think some of your statements are wrong I know lots of ex FTE folk at Ryanair

So stop posting misleading stuff about FTE and let any prospective FI come out see the place and speak to the CURRENT students and FIs

Thanks guys for getting back to me.Still concerns me to hear that students are having to study bristol ground school notation at present.For the best part of 100,000 euro you should expect the best of everything.

Is there many students failing at present?And if you are delayed in your training due to no fault of your own ie. having to wait for available aircraft etc, then who picks up the tab for your extra time needed at FTE.

Is there any more updates on FTE has anyone heard regarding their staff crisis and quality decline in training??

I read they bought 8 DA-42 and 2 sims, and keep on seeing adverts for instructors, air and ground. Real need or advertising?

I'm currently a student in FTE and sure a couple of months back they were very short of flying instructors due to a few very big classes coming into the flying phase so it was a little bit in disarray. But know they've hired a huge amount of instructors and it all seems to be getting back to normal with the bigger classes begging to filter out.

As regards to how they treat there staff I think it's pretty good, they normally put new instructors up in the social club, with an ensuite rooms, and 3 meals a day. The flight instructors I've talked to seem to be enjoying themselves anyway!

Would anyone have an update on the situation at FTE?

I'm considering going down there. Particularly interested in the state of the ground school; level of organisation, staffing level/morale/turnover, are courses on schedule etc.

I spent three happy years working there, but this was back in 2001-2004.
So I can't comment on what it's like to work there now. However it's a lovely area to live in. I still miss it.
