View Full Version : RAF/RFC Tadcaster
The airfield was actually a bit nearer Bramham Moor, just to the East of the A1. Does anyone have any photos of this airfield (in action, rather than recently)?
I have discovered that a relative was on 68 Training Squadron in 1917. Would also welcome knowing what types were operated there at that time, and any anecdotes.

From Halley (Squadrons of the RAF) we have the following:
57 Sqn - Avro 504A and BE2c from Aug-Dec 1916
76 Sqn - Bristol F2b from Mar-Jun 1919
94 Sqn - SE5a from Feb 1918- Jun 1919

From Ray Sturtivant's "Flying Training and Support Units"/Air Britain.
No.68 Training Squadron formed 7th April 1917 out of No.14 RS at Catterick in 8th Wing; to Bramham Moor(Tadcaster) 14th April 1917. Disbanded into No.38 TDS 15th July 1918.
Aircraft: JN4, Shorthorn, DH.6, FE2b, DH.1, Camel and Avro 504J/K.

Have you tried the Yorkshire Aviation Museum at Elvington. They may have information. Graham Simons of GMS Enterprises published a booklet history No.71 price £4;95.

T21 - no I haven't - since this info re my rellies' service came to hand. But I was there 3 months ago, and was very disappointed in what they showed of pre-WW2 aviation in Yorkshire. I think the YAM could do with a strategic re-think.
