In takeovers and mergers TUPE (Transfer of Undertakings {Protection of Employment} Regulations 1981) regulations apply. There is unlikely to a specific section for airlines relating to seniority lists but one thing that is in it is continuity of service. Essentially it means that anyone with XX years service in the organisation being taken over retains this in the new organisation.

TUPE is hugely complex and needs a good employment lawyer to find their way around it.
