Hi fellow PPRuNe Aviators,

I'm trying to find a place that can re-foam & re-upholster the chairs in my C150D. Also trying to find a company that sells the plastics too. The only one I can find on the internet is in the States.

Cheers,

Plumbs Prestige Reupholstery (http://www.prestigereupholstery.co.uk/?gclid=CK3w46Sj3qwCFVEhtAodGSyNGQ)

They do sofas as well as chairs:).

Seriously though. Many aircraft seats are re-upholstered by car specialists. They use approved materials and tend to be much cheaper than any firm with 'Aviation' in their name. Try having a word with these but go direct to the upholsterer and avoid middle man mark-up.

klf automotive, Upholstery and re-trims, XKR interior customising, based between Andover Winchester and Basingstoke Hampshire (http://www.klfautomotive.co.uk/Re-trims.html) ???

When considering the recovering of the seats, it is wise to consult with the person who maintains you aircraft first. Though it is an excellent idea, it is technically "maintenance", and as such, should be expected to conform to the required design (flammability), and be signed out. I very highly recommend leather. It is more expensive, but will last much longer, can be cleaned much more easily and completely (barf), and is assured to meet the flammability requirements, should anyone ask.

Be sure that when the old seat coverings are removed, the seat frame is completely disassembled, paint stripped, and inspected by the maintenance outfit. cracking of these frames is quite common. The new coverings will probably be glued on, and there is no point in spending the money to glue on new coverings, to have to take it all back off again next inspection, because an unseen crack opened up! There is also an AD on these seats now, excellent time to perform that inspection too!

There are several sources of interior plastic parts. Airtex is the one I know, though I have heard of others. Be sure to get the plastic for the right model of the 150, as there were fit changes over the years. Plan to do some trimming, and hole locating during installation.

It might be worth contacting Mick Allen Aircraft resprays at Turweston, they use a guy to do seats who is very good.

The guy did the seats on three of my aircraft and the seats look as good as new after three years of club use.

I am sorry but I cant remember his name.............but Mick will!

I've had three aircraft interiors (seats, carpets & some upholstered trim panels) done locally by an automotive trimming company. Ran it by my maint.org. first to ensure paperwork would all be in order. We're a long way from Odiham, but I'm sure you'll be able to find something similar locally.
For the plastic trim parts, we couldn't find anything in the UK and used Vantage Plane Plastics in the US
Plane Plastics - Airplane and Helicopter Interior Plastic Parts (http://www.planeplastics.com/)
I've ordered from them a few times over recent years with no problems, they ship quite quickly, about a week last time. You do need to do minor cutting and finishing on some parts. Also be aware, you'll need to pay import duty and VAT, usually to whoever the shipping agent is (UPS/FedEx etc). Remember as well to make sure you get 8130's for the parts.

Nice materials from these guys.

Boyriven Ltd. - Automotive & Marine Interiors- Andover 01264 771414 (http://www.boyriven.co.uk)

They can provide fire-resistance testing certificates and other documentation as necessary.

I was in a Robin DR400-180 at Syerston a couple of years ago and it had recently been retrimmed by a car place. Stunning interior, very nice job that made the aircraft look nearly new.

Just like fitting new registration plates to a used car, tarting up the inside, if done well, can enhance the value as well as the pleasure of using the aircraft.

That must be Ken Bones. He did my interior. Great job. Fair price.
