i heard a pilot reporting loss of an engine due to complete loss of oil pressure . the pilot was quite relaxed ...perhaps another failiure being a rare probability ?

what is oil pressure used for in an engine ...is it to oil the bearings ? how often do these engines fail ..is it a rare occurence ? unfortunatley i don't have details of the aircraft type or engine details.

Oil is used in a jet engine for the same reasons as in a car engine: lubricating and cooling (plus in some cases power transfer)

If in a car your engine loses oil - you stop at the side of the road and have it checked

If in a jet your engine loses oil - well, thats why it's always better to have at least two of them <img src="wink.gif" border="0">
