757 Query

I was on a 757-300 window seat row 30 overlooking the starboard wing , and noticed that during the cruise FL 360 the Inboard flap had not quite fully retracted leaving the trailing edge without its familliar "cleaned up profile" .After landing and full flaps had been retracted , the wing was "cleaned up" but this time the Inboard flap had fully retracted . . .I was not sure if the partial deployment was intentional or whether for some reason the flap stopped short due to a mechanical fault.. .I informed the flight crew for good measure. I would appreciate any knowledgeable comments on this ... .Thanks. <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

Charlie Papa: . .Well I guess you were on a JMC B757-300 (we are the sole operator in the UK.) If memory serves (and it may not) the flap does not fully retract in the air. I THINK it has to do with handling qualities. Anyway I will check the books and get back to you soon.. .Hope you enjoyed the flight! <img src="smile.gif" border="0"> . .Eff Oh.

Yes - i was the FO. Oddly enough nobody mentioned it to us !!!!

Expedite . .I must admit I was in two minds whether to mention it or not , but having done so the cabin crew said they would inform the "engineer".. .It does surprise me that you did not get the message .. .. .If I may go back to my original question , is this expected or a possible fault ?... .(Just curious thats all ). .. .Many Thanks Expedite . .Charlie Papa

I can't find anything in the manuals about it, but that doesnt mean it shouldnt happen. The Boing manuals these days are very sparse. . .. .There may be something in the conversion course - I'll have a look in the next day or so ....
