Buying my first headset! Would like advice on brand names, Noise Reduction vs. no NR, and how much I should expect to pay.

Might be usful to know how noisy the airplanes are that you will be flying. C130 vs a L1011 as an example, would be a totally different recommendation.

This has been covered at length before. Try a search.
Personally, I like the Peltor headsets. Light, comfortable with good sound deadening and the added advantage that they fold up really small. I bought two after looking at lots. Probably not robust enough for heavy club use, but great for private use.

Ok, so I did a search, but has anyone touched the Sennheiser headsets? One guy mentioned the mic on the DC headsets is prone to dying...

i use a Peltor in my akrobatic aircraft because of the IO540 which makes a bit of noise and the fact that it is very light which helps when pulling G's. On the L 1011 I used a regular Telex because the noise was very low. I like a headset that I can comfortably pull one side off when in cruise so I can hear the other crew/passengers. Good luck. I've found that the Denali's are very good.. .Value for money too, if you are concern about the cost of DC's

I fly the C172 RG quite regularly (makes a fair bit of noise!). Our a/c are equipped peltor headsets. Compared to a sennheiser headset (used in SAS 737 due to noisy environment), I prefer the peltor. Peltor headsets are roomy and don't press on the ears too much. The sennheiser headsets I've tried press too much on the ears and although they block sound quite well, they tend to become painful after 30 min... . . But the best thing i find is that they're really rugged and can take a fair bit of abuse (club flying!).
