Are aids such as NDBs and Loran C still used in busy airspace, such as western Europe? Or has VOR/DME, ILS/MLS and GPS taken over?

NDBs are definately still in use. They are on the published approached plates.

One in particular is LIC 545 which is specified on Coventry's ILS Plate.

NDBs are also used as beacons for Non precision approaches and for holds. Again I refer to Coventry, East Midlands et al.
