ORS4 no.865 has just been released; this replaces ORS4 no.816. It concerns the use of a Medical Declaration with Pilot Licences other than NPPL when flying SSEA, SLMG and Microlight Aeroplanes. This exemption is issued to enable the holder of an aeroplane licence other than the NPPL(A) to use that licence as if it is an NPPL(A) while having only a medical declaration appropriate to an NPPL(A).

See: http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/33/ORS4_865.pdf

Of note is that this will only be valid until 8 Apr 2012.

Anyone wishing/needing to use this exemption should instead consider obtaining an NPPL (SSEA), as this will be valid at least until 8 Apr 2015 on EASA and non-EASA aeroplanes; after that date the NPPL (SSEA) will only be valid for flying non-EASA aeroplanes.

The first casualty of the €urocratic nonsense of EASA part-FCL.....
