Dont know about EMA, but at Humberside it was pay cuts more or less across the board, except for the staff they couldnt afford to lose, (ie ATCOs).
I understand that they reduced the ATC assistants pay by £4000 per year.
Furthermore, my contacts there tell me that staff moral is at rock bottom and staff turnover is high. Unfortunately Humberside Airport is in a relatively depressed area, doesnt have many schedules, (having lost Gill and it looks like Eastern Airways are rocky at the moment), and it will go straight down the pan if Finningly Airport gets the go - ahead.

With regard to Finningley, unfortunately the positive recommendation given by the local council was then forwarded to 'Jabba' Prescott for final approval. In his totally unbiased capacity (not!) as a Humberside MP about to fight an election, he has decided to add about 2 years to the Finningley timetable by announcing that the plans will go before a formal public enquiry.

I have no doubt that the Manchester Airport authorities had a word in '2 Jags' ear about this, especially when one considers the double blow they would suffer when (as you quite correctly state BombBay) Humberside folds and East Mids loses valuable custom to the new Airport.

So, let's get this straight :

1) Prescott is a Humberside MP.
2) It's an election year.
3) His constituency Airport would suffer greatly if Finningley got the go-ahead.
4) This Airport is largely owned by Manchester Airport.
5) Another Airport likely to be affected by Finningley is East Midlands.
6) This Airport also happens to be owned by Manchester Airport.

With many hundreds of thousands of local people in favour of the development, and only a handful against, why the hell such a crucial decision was allowed to be put before a Minister with such obvious bias is completely beyond me.

I apologise for straying off the subject slightly, but this had to be said.

Labour Tossers !!!

Morale at Manchester Airport is at rock bottom too amongst the majority of its staff.
A few years ago the baggage handlers at Ringway Handling (a subsiduary of MAplc) enjoyed a 30% pay cut !!
now they are after the security section, they want them to work 4am starts at one hours notice if they are on call!! 75% of weekends in a year !! overtime at single rate and upto 30% pay cuts.
They have already given work away to ADI who have over the last two weeks made major f*** ups, but got away with them. (No DETR inspectors about).
The only thing the Maplc are interested in is Maximum profits. it made £45 million last year and increase to about £65 million this year.
They introduced Market Related Pay over 2 years ago across the airport for new starters but it has failed, they cannot retain staff, cannot recruit enought staff over the summer period therefore leading to shed loads of overtime done by workers on the old higher rates of pay which defeats the object of MRP. They have even scrapped the entrance exam for security because they are struggling for find staff, but who wants to work for £11,700 doing 4am starts late/night shifts and working nearly every weekend.
NOT BAD FOR AN AIRPORT RUN BY 10 LOCAL COUNCILS, AT LEAST 8 OF THEM LABOUR ONES
