UK Half Mill charts show Islay as having an IAP established outside controlled airspace.

By contrast, Jeppesen and the AIP make no reference any approaches.

The field is equiped with an NDB and DME.

Am I right in assuming that Loganair have their own approaches agreed with the Airport Operators? Are these available to other mere mortals?

All clues gratefully received.

A while ago, in my Aerad charts, the approaches into Islay had a note added to them - "Only for use by CAA-approved operators". At the time, this meant BRAL, and a few others. Now the plates have been removed by amendment from the manuals, so I guess that this means that only the approved operators such as Loganair have the plates.

Hope this helps!!

Thanks SLT. Your response confirms what I had suspected. I seem to remember seeing the charts in the Jepp manual as well, but it was only when I tried to find them the other day that I noticed them gone.

So why do we think they are restricted use approaches? Anybody from BRAL (or the CAA) care to shed some light?
