The question comes from the title of the thread.

I was reading the (Cabair printed) check list for a Cougar and found that one of the checks (around the engine cowlings) was

"Slinger Ring............(check) Flow"

Tell me more...and is it a Cougar thing - or an engine thing (if the latter, why haven't I heard of it before?)

It's an anti/de-icing thing. Applicable to a/c that have props that use an anti icing fluid.

The fluid is applied by having it pumped into a hollow tube in a ring - the 'slinger ring' - around the prop hub & next to the root. Centrifugal reaction from the ring spinning with the hub ejects the fluid out of holes located next to the prop. Centrifugal reaction & airflow then spreads the fluid along the blade.

GoneWest,

Did you get the job for the GA-7 then?

Already had the job, Homey.

Just had to ride with a guy for an hour - and he asked me what the hell it was.

I levelled with him - haven't a sodding clue, ask me one on Entertainment.
