He's already had one. It doesn't last because next to no one uses it. I think the Private Flying forum is the defacto gliding forum.

Concur; whilst personally I've always found gliders a bit underpowered, there's plenty of discussion about them in "Private Flying" where they seem to fit well.

Very reliable though. I haven't heard of one instance of an engine failure yet.

it amazes me, working for an airline, the number of our flight crew who refuse to get in a glider as they are too dangerous! why??? a glider was designed to fly without an engine, therefore nothing to worry about when it goes quiet..
Yeah, it's funny how power pilots turn white when told about having to get the approach right first time, every time.
(Or at least a close approximation ;) )
That, and being towed up 120 feet behind another plane.
Woo-hoo. Roll on the weekend. Watch out clouds !

The only flying training sytem where you are taught to fly formation before going solo!
Ex glider pilot, and proud of it!
A gliding forum would be good. As the world's glider (sailplane) pilots got to hear about a forum dedicated to them it would get used a lot. They are a fraternal bunch who love to swap stories.

For those of you after a gliding forum http://www.gliderpilot.net has several:
http://uras.gliderpilot.net (Serious gliding talk)
http://urasb.gliderpilot.net (Definitely not serious...) :D
http://ras.gliderpilot.net (More serious gliding talk, mainly US stuff...) :o

Yep, A gliding forum would be good, and would no doubt encourage a few more users! I know quite a few ATPL's who glide, and often started out gliding and worked their way up.
Besides, on a decent day in summer, there are significantly more gliders airborn in the UK, than powered aircraft.

I agree - lets have something extra for those of us that do both!
