JAR (JAA) Theory for an Australian Pilot

Just a quick question.

Does anyone know of any courses that are offered in Australia? JAR/JAA???? And if so does it help in getting work permits overseas.

Is it worth doing my Australian ATPL? I heard the JAR can be converted into Australian ATPL but not the other way!

Any info would be great!

First question,. .I assume you are at a very early stage of your career.. .Why are you starting at the JAA end of the spectrum, that is not necessarily where all the job will be in the future.. .Tootle pip.

Try contacting the CAA via their web site. Some knowledgeable people in Fight Crew Licencing there.

hmm.... .There are no courses in Australia for JAR theory. That may change in the future but there are none now. If you want to do the theory in Oz, best to do it via Distance learning. You will still have to go to the UK for the exams.. .No, it won't help you get a work permit. To work in the UK you must have either a British passport or the Right to live and work in the UK. (You can get that by marriage or by mother born in UK).. .Unless you have exceptional employment skills the chances of being "sponsored" over there are virtually nil. You would have to emigrate and go through those hoops.. .To convert a JAR ATPL to an Australian one is comparatively easy. However, to get a JAR ATPL you must have 500 hours in a multi pilot aeroplane. To convert the Australian ATPL to a JAR one is an expensive and time consuming affair.. .If you want to fly in Oz, get the Oz licence. . .Please note, very few low houred pilots are getting the "good jobs" in the UK at the moment.. .Good luck.
