Hi all, my flatmates recently went on a trip (2 hrs length) and got told by the crew to sit up the back due to W&B. The weird thing was that there were about 40 people in economy and they all had to sit in the the back few rows. The rest of the plane was empty. I know there could have been some underload considerations, it just seems a bit weird. Air new Guinea was the carrier.

A lot depends on the details of the loading system which the operator uses for the Type.
In this case it sounds like the aircraft without a load is rather nosey. Generally an aircraft of this size is trimmed in zones of however many seat rows. It may well have been that, with only a few pax, they had to be stuck in the aft zones to bring the CG back a bit.
Underload ought not to have been particularly relevant to the matter.
