Hello,

could somebody please tell me something about the ATIS at U.S. airport: If Low visibility procedures are in progress, is that announced in the ATIS. (It is announced in Europe).

This is a serious question as we are working on the procedures for a german airline and we were not able to find an answer to this question in our books.

I would be gratefull for every help,

Torsten

I have never heard "low visibility procedures in effect" on the the ATIS.

Usually they just give the prevailing visibility and perhaps RVR values for differing runways.
In our company the SOP's state what constitutes low visibility and the corresponding procedures, on either takeoff or approach & landing.
For operation in US airspace, the US OPS spec's will spell out what our company is authorised to conduct.

Hope that helps

Moin.

have you tried calling the FAA-Office in Frankfurt:

Frankfurt, Germany
FAA/CASIFU
American Consulate General
Platenstrasse 9
Frankfurt/Main, Germany 60320

(from www.faa.gov) (http://www.faa.gov)

My company´s OM-A states (for example):

"Before conducting an ... approach the commander shall ensure that
- Low Visibility Procedures for the intended type of approach are on force... "

Can´t make the "procedure" any more simple.

If in doubt, you´ll have to explicitly ask about CAT II/III anyway.

Viel Spass noch beim Ausarbeiten.

Hi wonderbusdriver,

for sur it would be an option to ask the FAA about this subject. But I guess it would be as helpfull as to ask the LBA about an Airbus. They might know the regulations.

Anyway, of course a pilot has to asure that LVP is in force, but as things are stated in the ATIS here in Europe, it makes life much easier.

regards from another Scarebusdriver....
