View Full Version : Looking for a simulator.....

I'm a PPLer and my other half has generously offered to pay for me to have a simulator session for my birthday next month.

I've already had a play on the Trident sim at Biggin Hill so I'm looking for something a little more modern with EFIS preferably.

The BA sims are too expensive at nearly £500 an hour for the 744/777. Is there anything around for £275-£350 an hour?

All help graciously welcomed...

YFC have a 737-200 but it doesn't have EFIS:

There's a rather bland looking 737 EFIS sim which tours the country but it's non-motion:

Today I had a chat with a nice bloke at this place
www.aviationexperience.co.uk who explained that GE had banned all public sim sessions post 9/11 for 'obvious' reasons.

How much can you learn in an hour in a sim? If you wanted to rent a specific type for fifty hours and pay with cash and bring your own instructor along then I can understand the suspicion. But this strikes me as throwing the baby out with the bathwater! Are they going to ban all copies of FS2002 next? I'm gonna hide mine under the pillow!

Reverser,

I want a go in that sim at Biggin. Do you have the details for it??

Why not try European Air Charter at Bournemouth. They let their sims out to guys like yourself. Well they did a couple of years ago. They charge £170 for an hour in the B727. They have a 1-11 and two Tristar sims. The graphics are adequate at night and certainly the Tristar is modern enough with a bloody good autoland demo. No EFIS though.

Unfortunately, since Sep 11, British Airways Flight Training has also imposed restrictions upon who can use it's simulators.

tmfna,

Raw Data organises Wannabe sim days, it's been a while since the last one. Chase him up!

Chap you need for the Biggin Hill Trident is called Andy Matocks, phone number 01883 652109.

It's an ex-BEA Trident sim with dusk visuals and full motion. Andy bought it off BA and maintains it himself. I'd advise you to take along a mate and have a crack at the Kai Tak approach.

It should cost you £50ph, or £65ph if you need an instructor.

Enjoy.

Turn round - I'm taking your number down in my book. Now I'm showing you the yellow card. OK everybody - see that?

Next time it's a red.

On PPRuNe you are not allowed to mention the T word without giving advanced warning. Quite a few of us have to get out our box of Kleenex Tissues to cope with such emotional experiences.

By the way, just to avoid confusion, the simulator is not at Biggin Hill unless of course you are one of those people who would argue that "London Luton" is near London.

Sorry Twist.

Didn't mean to cause you any distress there. Are you emotionally attached to the old 'T' or are you still suffering from cold sweat imagining trying to get one off the runway on a hot day?

Yeah I remember how Raw Data kept referring to it as being the Biggin Hill sim, the town is called Woldingham and is a good 4 miles south with lots of bendy and hilly turns. Had I known that I would've taken the car
